Two years ago my daughter decided that she wanted hair as long as Rapunzel's. I seriously underestimated her commitment to this idea and so cue the hair growth! My daughters hair completely baffles me. I love it and think it is beautiful - but I am completely perplexed by it. I have thick, course, slightly curly hair - I'm basically a wired haired wild woman. Did my daughter get hair anything like mine - NO!! Her hair is fine, stubbornly straight and she has a TON of it. Sounds great, right? Nope!! If you even look at her hair the wrong way it will knot into the tightest rats nest you have ever seen. Want to curl it? That's hilarious - three professional hairdresser have tried - 15 minutes later her hair was straight again! Want to put it in a ponytail? Fat Chance. Hair ties slip out of her hair! Want all her golden locks to sit flat in any design you want - you had better have given a sacrifice to the hair gods - because that's a miraculous feat!! Her Hair is now past the middle of her back and she says she won't be happy until it touches her butt (Insert mom face palm here!)

Brushing out her hair is a chore that often involves pain and tears and yelling and crying and complaining and whining. I had used a detangling spray on her hair before, but it was chunky and really did very little. But in hopes of trying to make this chore less of an ordeal, I thought of making my own detangling spray for her.

What we used:
Aloe Vera Juice - extremely moisturizing for the hair and adds a nice amount of slip that helps with detangling but the hair absorbs so it does not leave her hair greasy.

Apple Cider Vinegar - I was very hesitant to use this but the vinegar spray does evaporate away and leave her hair so so SHINY!! Apple cider vinegar is known for its detangling properties.

Vegetable glycerin - this is a humectant - meaning it draws water from the surrounding environment and pulls it into the hair - making is much more manageable.

Argan oil - We chose this oil as it is so health for the hair, and gives it a little shine, a whole lot of slip (think letting the knots slide out as you comb through). But any oil will do - other great oils are fractionated coconut oil, olive oil or almond oil.

Conditioner - We used a little conditioner to help add softness and makes her hair so healthy.

Perservative - we used an ecocert perservative (meaning a natural perservative that has been recognized to be used in organic formulas). Any formula that has both water and oils in it can go rancid very quickly.

Option - Solubizer - this allows oils and butters to be incorporated into liquid formulas. This is an option that I didn't use and we shake the bottle anyway - but if you prefer to have your spray stay very mixed together without any shaking required - this will do the trick.

Essential Oils

I chose Rosemary, Peppermint, Tea Tree and Lavender all for their benefits to the hair as well as they deter lice! Always nice to have a little extra protection for my elementary aged child in school - cause sharing is not always caring! Rosemary is known for helping to make hair healthy as well as helping hair grow. Tea Tree oil is an oil that is amazing for helping hair stay clean and keeping critters away. Peppermint has a wonderfully tingling sensation on the scalp and helps with blood circulation to the scalp and lavender helps calm the scalp.
